Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on cyber crimes, your essay should include the forms of cyber crimes, the roots or reasons of cyber crimes and how to fight against it. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

With the internet being widely used around us, cyber criminals seem to be everywhere. For example, some commit fraud or lift intellectual property; others snatch passwords or defame. Still, they unleash viruses to crash computers. As a result, great damages have been made to companies, the same to computer users, making losses up to 10 billion dollars per year.

Naturally, there are many causes for the cyber crimes. In addition to the wicked nature of hackers, the frailties of Internet partially nourish the crimes. Cyber vandals can find out the weakness in the Website software programs and manipulate software glitches, then gain access to Websites and commit all kinds of crimes.

However, we shouldn't tolerate these cyber criminals while suffering from losses. Therefore, it is the high time that we should take all effective steps to battle the cyber crooks. Firstly, the cyber laws should be reinforced to protect the Web. Secondly, high-end techniques need to be improved in intrusion detection, which will comprehensively enhance the computer security. Lastly, more talented people need to be trained to build up more firewalls so as to make the internet immune to various kinds of viruses and to all sorts of cyber criminals.

  Shakespeare, William (1564 1616 )

  Key words: playwright poet.

Born in 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England . The son of John Shakespeare, a glover, and Mary Arden, of farming stock. Much uncertainty surrounds Shakespeares early life. He was the eldest of three sons, and there were four daughters. He was educated at the local grammar school, and married Anne Hathaway, from a local farming family, in 1582. She bore him a daughter, Susanna, in 1583, and twins, Hamnet and Judith, in 1585.

Shakespeare moved to London, possibly in 1591, and became an actor. From 1592 to 1594, when the theatres were closed for the plague, he wrote his poems Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece. His sonnets, known by 1598, though not published until 1609, fall into two groups: 1 to 126 are addressed to a fair young man, and 127 to 154 to a dark lady who holds both the young man and the poet in thrall. Who these people are has provided an exercise in detection for numerous critics. The first evidence of his association with the stage is in 1594, when he was acting with the Lord Chamberlains company of players, later the Kings Men. When the company built the Globe Theatre south of the Thames in 1597, he became a partner, living modestly at a house in Silver Street until c.1606, then moving near the Globe. He returned to Stratford c.1610, living as a country gentleman at his house, New Place. His will was made in March 1616, a few months before he died, and he was buried at Stratford.

  Academic Dishonesty on Campus

It is shown in the recent surveys that many college students copy papers from the Internet to save the trouble of doing their assignments . In my opinion, this kind of academic dishonesty is very harmful to these students.

First, copying papers from the Internet makes students lazy. Copying papers from the Internet seems easy and can save some time and trouble; seldom work hard to complete their papers on their own. In other words, students will become lazier and lazier. Second, students can learn little from copying others’ work. Students cannot improve their abilities just by downloading papers from the Internet without their own thinking and working. What’s worse, once students get used to academic cheating, they may also cheat in other cases in the future, which will be very dangerous for them, especially when it’s put down in the honesty record .

这里使用 了first, second, what s worse来连接这些理由。这里的一个亮点是近义词的使用,如 :copy papers from the Internet ,academic dishonesty ,copy others work ,download papers from the internet, academic cheating 等都是表示学术舞弊行为。

Therefore, in order to prevent academic dishonesty on campus, some punishments by the school may be necessary. But the most important thing is that teachers should talk to those students, and make them aware of the fact that copying others’ work cannot bring them any knowledge and that only by working hard can they improve themselves.

  1.save the trouble of doing sth.:“省去做某事的麻烦”;

  4.inothercases: “在其他情况下” ;也可以用inothersituations ,onotheroccasions,under other circumstances等 。

  5. be put down:“记下”;这里还可以用be written down ,be recorded等 。

8.only by working hard can they improve themselves: “只有通过努力他们才能有所提高” 这里使用 的是部分倒装 的句式 。

An important new industry, oil refining, grew after the Civil war. Crude oil, or petroleum - a dark, thick ooze from the earth - had been known for hundreds of years, but little use had ever been made of it. In the 1850s Samuel M. Kier, a manufacturer in western Pennsylvania, began collecting the oil from local seepages and refining it into kerosene. Refining, like smelting, is a process of removing impurities from a raw material.

Kerosene was used to light lamps. It was a cheap substitute for whale oil, which was becoming harder to get. Soon there was a large demand for kerosene. People began to search for new supplies of petroleum.

The first oil well was drilled by E.L. Drake, a retired railroad conductor. In 1859 he began drilling in Titusville, Pennsylvania. The whole venture seemed so impractical and foolish that onlookers called it Drakes Folly. But when he had drilled down about 70 feet , Drake struck oil. His well began to yield 20 barrels of crude oil a day.

News of Drakes success brought oil prospectors to the scene. By the early 1860s these wildcatters were drilling for black gold all over western Pennsylvania. The boom rivaled the California gold rush of 1848 in its excitement and Wild West atmosphere. And it brought far more wealth to the prospectors than any gold rush.

Crude oil could be refined into many products. For some years kerosene continued to be the principal one. It was sold in grocery stores and door-to-door. In the 1880s refiners learned how to make other petroleum products such as waxes and lubricating oils. Petroleum was not then used to make gasoline or heating oil.

A prize or award, whether it’s the Noble Prize, the Academy Award, or Best Handwriting Prize, is important. Such prizes can have economic, personal, and social effects that enrich the life of the recipient.

Prize like the Noble Prize can be a cash award. But ever for prizes that don’t, like the Academy Award, an actress who wins best actress will be offered more roles and a higher pay than actresses who don’t win the award. Even for the elementary student who received the school’s Best Handwriting award may get a congratulations gift from proud grandparents.

The personal benefits of receiving any award are evident. Any award winner is pleased that be or she has been recognized for his or her work. When people receive the Academy Award, they often cry they are so happy.

Everyone likes to be with a winner. A person who gets a prize often has many new, best friends. A winner’s social life is much better than a loser’s social life. The winner of the Best Handwriting prize may not be very popular with his or her jealous classmates, however.

Awards serve a very useful purpose in that their economic, personal, and social benefits add to the recognition.

In the afternoon, I sat on the balcony and watched the cloud, thinking about some knowledge about the cloud.

I see there are many strange clouds in the sky. In the south, there is a cloud like a white sheep. In the west, the long cloud is like a pen. In the East, the cloud is like a tree. Beside it, it is like a book made of clouds There are many beautiful clouds waiting for me to give them interesting names!

Looking at the clouds in the sky, I think of a lot of knowledge about clouds: dark clouds mean that it will rain soon; sunset means that there will be sun tomorrow

I also know how clouds can be "transformed"? As soon as the sun shines on the water vapor, a lot of water vapor will gather in the sky and "change" into a strange cloud.

Cloud really contains a lot of knowledge, waiting for me to explore.

It is a common phenomenon that a large number of students are pursuing success with a wrong belief that there exists a shortcut to learning. The picture given reveals this fact in an ironic way. We can easily notice from the cartoon that a student is asking the teacher in the library how to achieve accomplishment in school without studying, while the teacher is pointing to the fiction section to tell him to work hard.

Learning is actually a painstaking process in which both students on campuses and employees of working agencies are struggling to acquire knowledge by sparing great efforts. On the contrary, some people in today’s society aim at studying without hard work, following the so-called “shortcut” ways. From my own perspective, there is no shortcut in the way to learn. First and foremost, learning or obtaining knowledge is based on the accumulation step by step. The famous saying that Rome is not built in one day teaches us that no goal is achieved without persistence and accumulation. In addition, the shortcut to learning is extremely appealing to those who are unwilling to spend time and energy studying because they might win by a fluke. However, students advocating the shortcut is unlikely to win every time. Last but not least, the fickleness and negative attitudes towards exams are responsible for the widespread trend of the shortcut belief, and it surely lead to the failure of study to some students. Taking a look around us, we can find that many agencies and people believe in the prediction of the exams, and students may be indulged in the so-called perditions and pay no attention to studying hard.

As has been mentioned, learning without hard work tends to be useless and meaningless, for students cannot have a great chance to grow into all-round intellectuals. The picture makes us college students aware of the great significance of true skill and genuine knowledge. Only by making efforts to learn in and after class can we gain solid and real ability and competence.
