Smith answered that he hadn' t. The policeman, however, soon caught the thief. When Mr. Smith got home, he was surprised to see that it was his own things that had been stolen.

开学已经三个星期了，今天英语老师给我们进行第一次测试。
上课铃声响了，只看见英语老师拿着厚厚的一叠试卷走进教室。同学们有些慌乱起来，我的心也开始“怦怦怦”地跳着。随着试卷一张张发下来，我的心也越来越慌了。这可是我们的第一次英语考试呀！不知出的题是什么样子？
试卷很快发到了我的手里。我一看，呀！试卷有两个部分，第一部分是听力部分，第二部分是笔试部分。老师把一个个单词报了出来，让我们去勾画，可是，我怎么找来找去也找不到老师读的单词呢？我开始慌乱起来。渐渐地，我跟不上老师了，老师报单词的声音就像苍蝇在耳边飞一样，我急得差点就要哭了出来。
听力部分很快就结束了。虽然我全部做了，但是一点都没有信心。接下来是笔试部分，这是我拿手的`部分。我一道道题认真地做下去，感觉还不错，只是由于听力部分出乎意料，因此尽管是在考试，我的心里却一直在咕嘟着。
下课铃声响了，我把试卷交了上去。可是，我的心里很难过。唉！英语实在太难了，特别是听力部分，看来，回家还要多听录音，争取下次考试考出好成绩。
